Product Testing: Rab MeCo 120 Base Layer

Rab’s Slim-fitting and comfortable MeCo 120 base layer is competition-ready and durable enough for a multitude of fast moving outdoor activities.

The MeCo 120 sits comfortably at the lighter-weight end of the base layer spectrum and is nicely constructed from a combination of Australian Merino wool and recycled polyester, with the 65-35% split in favour of the Antipodeans’ sheep.

You, Me, and Alan makes Three

Apart from licking my face with all the enthusiasm of an empty food bowl; Alan is a sociable creature.

I find there are elements of Alan that remind of Tintin’s side-kick, Snowy. But Alan's as much at home on the rear bench as he is lapping-up his next adventure. Alan is also very handsome. He cuts a fine dash and provides an added air of sophistication to our outing as we head further into the forest.

Silly Witch Mitkin

Witch Mitkin is a character we created for our rhyming short-story books. Aimed at chidren from around four to seven, and anyone with a young heart, these fabulously illustrated books will keep everyone giggling for ages (bit annoying if you're trying to go to sleep, of course) but children and adults alike can relate to 'Silly Witch Mitkin' and her mischievious adventures. She tries hard to be mean, but, you know? life isn't easy for a young witch these days.

Janey Gerrard is responsible for the illustrations; she's a real find, and we aim to keep her a secret while we can. Janey captured 'Mitkin' perfectly from the outset: young and full of beans, naughty but nice, and a cat that (like all cats) puts up with a lot of pulling around and getting into scrapes when all he wants to do is curl-up in front of the fire - he puts up with a lot, really.

But ... the real coup is that Forest Forge Youth Theatre group put on a live version of 'Silly Witch Mitkin' at Hillier Gardens, on Halloween this year - it doesn't get much better than that.

Here's a few still shots from the day

If you want to find out more about Forest Forge Youth Theatre, or the professional, adult version, have a look at www.forestforge.co.uk

Meanwhile, back with poor O'Brian, we have promised him revenge - soon ...

You can follow Witch Mitkin and her cat, O'Brian on facebook. We've promised Mitkin her own website too; we can't wait!

Puddle of Love

Friday's weather came as a pleasant surpise so we grabbed camera and bikes and rushed off to Oxford to do a photo-shoot for the Sportive Guige book - and what a day. Hardly a cloud in the sky. It was cold and the roads were still wet from the torrential rain we've all experienced over the last week; so we made hay ...

While setting up for one pic' we came across this little gem below

Which, if I'd parked a few feet further forward we would have missed completely.

All-in-all, a grand day out, Gromit. Big thank you to Henry Bisset for taking the shots; and it only cost me a luke-warm bacon bap and a coffee, cheers!

Cycling Guide Book

If you've read Quintin Blake's 'Mrs Armitage on Wheels' then you'll know that what she 'REALLY' wanted was a copy of the forthcoming '20 Classic Sportive Training Routes' to the Southeast of England.

Fron the New Forest in the west, to the High Weald of Kent in the east, the Southeast guide book includes twenty classic training routes spread across eight counties and will pit newcomers and experienced roadies alike against some of the toughest and most scenic riding this section of England has to offer.

Written by our chief staff writer, the book is due to be published by Cicerone next year. It's been an exciting project and a real joy to ride and write. Although it's nearing completion, there are a further two books in this series to come: 'Southwest England', 'Central England and Wales'.

We'll keep you posted ...

Passionate Content

We could wax-lyrical about our aspirations, business or otherwise, but here at The Writeworks we hope you'll find our blog posts quite interesting, possibly quirky, definately ecclectic and hopefully informative, but most of all - passionate!

From vintage space rockets to classic cars, outdoor clothing and all things cycling, our aim is to bring you content that fires the imagination without the cliches; and to have a little fun along the way too ...
